Core Values

Ecumenical Church of Pueblo West is a Christ centered community of faith committed to:

          Knowing Jesus.

Growing in our loving relationship with God and each other.

Serving our community in Christ’s name.

                                         Sharing Christ with the world.

Preamble:    We, the members of the Ecumenical Church of Pueblo West, in order to create a more faithful fellowship, nurture a Christ centered ministry, promote equality and inclusion among all people, contribute to community welfare, and secure the blessings of Our Lord for ourselves and future generations, do affirm the following Core Values of our church:

CHRIST as LORD and SAVIOR

Our essential belief is that Jesus is the Christ and our Lord and Savior.

AUTHORITY of SCRIPTURE

The Ecumenical Church recognizes scripture to be God’s authoritative word for our lives.  We encourage every individual to interpret scripture within the community of faith and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

CHRISTIAN UNITY AMIDST DIVERSITY

We promote the oneness of the church in Jesus Christ.  Recognizing that it is our common faith in Jesus as Savior that unites us, we discern God’s will for our lives and church through prayer and study. We are respectful of all who may hold different theological positions than our own. “In matters of faith, unity; in matters of opinion, liberty; in all things, love.”

CENTRALITY of WORSHIP

The Ecumenical Church recognizes that the active worship of God, with both heart and mind, is the primary ministry that nurtures our church family in all of our other ministries.

COMMUNION and BAPTISM

We understand Communion to be an expression of the oneness of the church and gather around the Lord’s Table each time we worship together.   All are welcome to participate.   To honor our ecumenical calling, we practice any form of baptism desired by the individual or family including believer’s baptism by immersion, believer’s baptism by sprinkling, or infant/child baptism by sprinkling.

HOSPITALITY and FELLOWSHIP

Following the example that Jesus has set before us, we eagerly welcome all into our midst with genuine friendliness, understanding, and caring hospitality. We strive to create an environment of physical, emotional, and spiritual safety for all who enter our doors.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH and DISCIPLESHIP

We value sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and making Disciples. We strive to create a joyful environment in which each child, youth, and adult can experience God’s love and grace, grow in their personal relationship with Jesus the Christ, and be comforted by the Holy Spirit. We do this by lifting up God’s Word in worship and by offering opportunities for prayer, education, study, fellowship, stewardship, and service.  We lift up the fruit of the spirit as a goal for our daily living:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.   We seek to create a church where these gifts may be shared and experienced by all.

OUTREACH and COMPASSION

Through our gifts of time and resources, we lovingly accept the privilege and responsibility of being Christ’s hands, feet, and voice in our community, nation, and world.  As a compassionate community of faith we stand beside those who are celebrating life’s joys and minister to those who are experiencing life’s sorrows and hardships while embracing the blessings and gifts of every day.

CONGREGATIONALLY GOVERNED / COVENANT BOUND

The Ecumenical Church values being a congregational governed church where each member can participate in decisions as set forth in the by-laws.   We also value our historic and on-going covenant relationships with the American Baptist Church USA and the Presbyterian Church USA.
